I am here to tell you that it is not easy to paint a tortoise, even when you don't bother with feet.
This is the photo I was using as a guide. If you take a look at the original, you will see that, often, the physical structure of the tortoise shell goes one way, but the colors streak the other way. I could not figure out how to render the shell. I kept changing my mind.
It's silly, but the thing I am happiest with is the eye.
