How have I gotten this far in life without realizing how truly stunning the plumage of a rooster can be? I actually just wanted to paint a chicken, but then I found this very handsome guy.
I tried to capture him here and failed miserably, defeated by the perspective of the walkway. Instead of going off into the distance, the stones seemed to climb vertically in front of me.
Making lemonade out of lemons, I decided to turn the walkway into a wall and try again to capture the rooster in a later painting, having learned a thing or two. I made what would have been the sides of the walkway into trees, and the farthest point of the walkway became a sky.
This painting is a bit of a mess… too symmetrical and having no real focal point. Also, it would have to be a very high wall, or you would have to be very short, or even lying on the ground looking up at it.
However, I am happy about one thing… how the trees turned out.
They seem to have depth and variations in light. I will try that technique again.
