I love irises. Love, love, love them. But they have all those twists and curves and curls. I was not sure I could capture that in acrylic paint, so I thought I would experiment with something else. First, I tried colored pencils, but I quickly got frustrated and gave up on that. It felt too mathematical and not fun, trying to reproduce all those little details. So then, I tried some fancy oil-based crayons that were in an art kit. That was better than the pencils, but I got frustrated again and stopped. I could not figure out how to add the white flowers in after I had done all the other stuff. I think I should stick to acrylic paint. Maybe now that I have tried to do an iris in other ways, I will be able to attempt one in acrylic paint. Maybe I should attempt easy subjects with a difficult medium, and vice versa.
