We spent some time in an Asheville, N.C. rental house that sat right beside a lovely field full of cows and goats. On the wall of that rental was a painting I loved of a cow's colorful face. I was so enchanted with it that I tried to copy it. They say that is one way to learn.
Above is my version. Below is a photo of the painting I was trying to copy. I can see that my version looks too flat. The professional one gives you more of a sense of the roundness of the snout and stronger shadowing.
Unfortunately, it was not signed so I don't know who the artist might be.
