This came from a photo I took on the porch just after picking irises, columbine, and sweet alyssum. The pink side of the bench is such a strong color, I didn't want it to compete with the flowers, so I made it a darker red. I probably should have muted the color of the bricks as well, but I had just come back from seeing some Matisse paintings and was still reveling in his use of color. The thing I worked the hardest at in this painting was trying to make the vase look transparent.
